Corpus Christi is a city and metro area on the Gulf Coast of South Texas. The picturesque coast is perfect for mild winters with warm, tropical climates that make it an attractive place to live. Tourists are attracted here by the opportunity to visit the magnificent Aquarium and the USS Lexington, a WWII-era aircraft carrier.
Although it has a very low murder rate, it falls into this list due to the high number of attacks.
Corpus Christi Police Department lieutenant Michael Pena said the FBI collects information and reports criminal data called the Unified Crime Report.
According to the FBI report, aggravation of murder, homicide, rape, robbery, and assault are violent crimes. According to FBI data, there are an estimated 736.9 violent crimes per 100,000 people in 2019 in Corpus Christi.
Compared to Houston, our violent crime rate is lower. There are 1,072 violent crimes in Houston, but data show that Corpus Christi has 515.9 more violent crimes than San Antonio and Austin 286.9.
Dallas did not report its violent crime statistics to the FBI and was not listed.
“Of the 1,145 law enforcement agencies in Texas, only 694 sent their information to the FBI,” Pena said.
Pena said the CCPD has arranged meetings and events with the general public to ensure great ties and relationships with the community.
“We participated in the National Night Out, Safe Return and Pre-Kovid, which held meetings to meet with the community,” Pena said.
To reduce crime, Pena said the CCPD applies to grants such as Klitschko or Ticket State Grants and DWI Patrolling. The CCPD is in the process of recruiting more police officers.
“We have a great relationship with the community. We try to reduce the fear of crime and significant crime, ”Pena said.
Compared to last year, FBI reports show that there is a way to report violent crime. Therefore, it is unclear whether crime in Corpus Christi increased or decreased from 2018 to 2019.
